Cinder-Kiersten

So many of you may know that Kiersten has been having a problem with picking up her toys - she doesn't want to! Right before Christmas we tried "toy time-out," where everything we had to pick up went into the garage for a week. As soon as she realized that her toys weren't going in the trash, and that we were going to pick them up she didn't care how long they stayed in the garage. In fact, some things have been in the garage for the last 3 months and she doesn't care. So last week I tried another version of "toy time-out" - she now has to do a job for each thing she wants to get out of toy time out. So far the only things she's been motivated to get out are birthday presents for her friends, the morning of the party! The first morning I had her washing some of Tanner's toys in the sink and all of sudden she says to me, "Mom, look! I'm like Cinderella. I have to do lots of jobs like she does!" Two days later when she was ready for the other birthday present I had her dust the baseboards in the hallway. She refused to take off her Cinderella dress while she worked. I guess because she has to do jobs like Cinderella, she needs to dress like Cinderella! Unfortunately I haven't been able to get her to jobs to get things like her shoes out of time out - she always chooses to wear different shoes rather than do an extra job!

That Cinderella comparison she came up with is hilarious.

Hey Kristie! It has been a long time. Your kids are so cute! I love that she has to dress up and be Cinderella when she does chores. Girls are so silly and fun!

That is so funny! We have just started to do the same thing with Logan as he is having a hard time picking up his toys too. It makes us crazy and he doesn't even care when the toys are gone. Maybe I should try your thing and make him do a chore.

Um, I think you're in for a long haul! This experience would make a fabulous children's book. I just don't know what the "happy ending" would be. When you figure it out, let me know! :)

That toy time out idea is a good idea...I just might try it.
